Hilton, Kardashian and Drama, Oh My!
If you thought that monarchies have been slowly becoming a thing of the past. . .think again. These two “princesses,” Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian, are in line to inherit some of the wealthiest businesses around.
Conrad Hilton, Paris’ great-grandfather, started the well-known Hilton chain of hotels , and today Richard Hilton’s (Paris’ father) net worth is a cool $300 million .
Meanwhile, the net worth of the Kardashian pot of gold is not accurately known, but anyone who knows anything about stardom, starlings, and Hollywood, knows that they are not exactly hurting for money. Robert Kardashian, Kim’s deceased father, was O.J. Simpson’s lawyer during his pivotal trial, but later went into business quite successfully (obviously). Now the family is involved in a variety of business, most well-known probably being their family-owned high-end clothing stores.
But as is now apparent, money doesn’t necessarily mean civilized. Reality shows for these two (Paris’ “The Simple Life” and Kim’s “Keeping up the with Kardashian’s”) show just how out of touch these two are with the real word. Paris didn’t even know what Walmart was. . .(Psst, Paris, they are only ranked #1 on the Fortune 500 list!)
While this isn’t a bash fest because these two ladies may not be the brightest of the bunch, nor a knock of jealously for the oodles of money they posses, after all, we are all different and their family has earned their wealth respectably, but it is absolutely mind-boggling how people can be so wrapped up in an elite world that they have no idea their life is actually considered fantasy, even qualitatively shallow, by many. In a very odd sense, Hilton and Kardashian suffer from poverty-of-reality in the sense that they have been enveloped so deeply in luxury they have no concept of the world that 99% of the rest of the human race lives in (and yes, their parents have played at least some part in that as well). Their reality shows are ultimately far from reality. . .that being the ironic comedy of their TV shows.
In this sense though, there is a (small) sense of pity for being so naive and misled by the mirage that is economical elitism. While many of us would like to avoid financial struggle, at least it does offer the perspective of enjoying life’s simple pleasures - something Paris and Kim probably have probably not experienced in the way the common world citizen has.
But in the end, it still begs to be asked out of logical, business common sense:
So how about it Mrs. Jenner (Kim’s remarried mom) and Mr. Hilton. . .are you really sure this is what you want the future leaders of your companies to be?

If nothing else, kudos to Donald Trump and his “heiress”, Ivanka who is quickly becoming every bit as savvy as her father.
